I bought this before a trip up to the Arctic Circle and it sure did keep things warm while out in the middle of winter! I like the hinge design so you can pull it down occasionally to eat or drink, etc.

Great feel and quality. The only complaint I have is the hinge feels to be pretty far back but it does allow the mask to come far enough down to reveal your whole face. I love the fabric in front of the mouth and nose. Even -5 degree weather it didn’t freeze and become uncomfortable!

Now that it’s FINALLY cold enough to have properly tested the 6823 balaclava here’s what I think. The 6823 is without a doubt a nice product. It’s soft and extends down your neck enough to keep drafts out and lock the heat in. However, the hinging aspect which makes it nice and easy to regulate your temperature by being able to fold the top down yet still keep your face covered requires a lot of tweaking and adjusting and hassle to get comfortable. I also found that it was definitely uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time as it puts a lot of pressure on my nose. Maybe I’ve got a huge nose, who nose..er…knows. I would love to make this product a fixture in my cold weather gear bag and provide a follow-up long term review but I just can’t get over how uncomfortable it is on my nose. I think I’ll be trying out a different ergodyne balaclava for my long term use and keep this one as a backup or a short term use bit of “home gear”.

This is the best face mask I’ve ever worn. The fit is perfect and the material is high quality. You don’t get the scratching noise in your ears when you move your head side to side. The front portion over your mouth is very breathable and prevents moisture build up inside the cloth. I would highly recommend for any cold weather outdoor activities. I wear this while driving tractor, ice fishing and hunting throughout the cold Wisconsin months.

This is the North country.
When I go to the gym I have neither the time nor the patience to use the hair dryer.
Instead I use the mask which works well.

Does not work well with beards, constantly needing adjustment, and glasses instantly fogged up. I purchased this to wear while I ride my motorcycle. My initial donning of the product was pleasant. It is very comfortable and easy to breath through the mesh. However, when I put it on for a ride, my glasses instantly fogged up. The fog would only go away if I was moving (wind). I had to pull over after a red light to wipe the moisture off. As I rode along I realized that every time I moved my jaw the lower would moved down until the edge was eventually in my mouth. I believe this may be happening because my beard is catching on the fabric and pulling on it when i move. This is what caused me the need to constantly adjust the lower. On the other hand, upper fit nicely under my half helmet and my ears and neck stayed warm. That’s pretty impressive considering I was at 60+ MPH and it was 42 degrees (F) this morning. Maybe it will work better with a clean shaven face, but I’m not willing to shave this beauty to find out. I’ll probably continue to wear it for the ears and neck benefit, but I’m still hunting for that perfect Balaclava for my chilly motorcycle rides.

Wow, I finally get to use this. My wife got this for me about a year ago in the hopes it would be something to keep my bald head warm at work. Well, she was right. I have also started to use it outside of work as well. I really like that if I get to warm I can move either part to cool off. Also, the hi-vis option works really well under my hard hat while I’m working along busy highways. The only negative is that my glasses do fog up, but that happens most of the time with things like this. (for me anyway)

Love this. I also pull it 1/2-way up so the heavier material covers my mouth: a coronavirus mask that can easily be slipped off & on. Is there lightweight model for warmer weather?
